Frigidaire Dishwasher Door Squeaks

Repair Manuals

Every time the Dishwasher Door opens or closes it drives you crazy! What causes the annoying door music?
This vibration type noise I'm refering to applies to Frigidaire Dishwashers with the following model numbers.

FDB4315LF
FDBB4365F
LEDB500FE
GLD4355RF
PLD4375RF
PLD4555RF

The noise is caused by tension on the nylon cable from the spring, as it moves around the friction pulley. Basically a vibrating cable making the spring get quite noisy. The next question of course is how do you fix the problem?

How to Fix and Repair the Noisy Dishwasher Door Springs and Cables:

First, check the cables for any grease or oil, if the cables have been lubricated replace the cable
and friction pulley it rides around. This may require replacing the cable and pulley on both
sides. After checking or replacing these parts take a bar of regular unscented soap and
liberally rub both of the cable and the door spring on both sides. Then open and close the
door 4 or 5 times to work the soap into the cable and pulley to complete repair.

Here are the Parts and the Part Numbers for what you may need to stop the Squeak.

Door Cable is Part Number 154578801

Door Spring is Part Number 154579101

  1. Thanks! The soap worked great. I just opened and closed the door and let the the nylon cable run back and forth across the bar of soap. No more squeaking!

  2. Worked great for me too. Amazing frigidaire would engineer something that would squeak that obnoxiously.

  3. Thanks for the advice. My door started squeaking (that is a serious understatement) after we had our floor done. I tried some oil, but that did not work. I found this post and tried the soap without replacing the cables. Helped for a couple of days, but then it came back. Like the post says, if you oiled the cables, you will most likely need new ones. After replacing the cables and applying some soap, the door is completely silent.

  4. Thanks so much!! We have been complaining about that awful squeak for two years at least. This solution worked great! Life is good, it is totally silent.

  5. Thank you so much for this solution of putting soap on the cables. We have been putting up with that awful noise for over a year. It was such an easy fix and the silence is wonderful !!

  7. how do you get to the parts to lube them?

  8. Unscrew the two screws at the bottom plate under the door, exposing the pump, electrical connections (you should unplug it from the outlet under the sink to be safe), and door springs. Notice on the left and right hand side there is a cord connected to springs that goes back and forth as the door opens/closes. Notice near the front of the machine, under the door, are the two pulleys that route the cord 90 degrees up to the door linkage. Place a small piece of soap (hotel soap is perfect) against the cord/string and do it right where it enters the pulley. Then open/close the door and the string will move under the soap, lubricating both. Do this to the cord/string on both sides of the pulley, making sure to get the side of the cord/string that contacts the pulley (lube the backside of the cord going up, and lube the top of the cord going toward the back of the machine to attch at the spring).

    1. Many thanks. Worked perfectly on Frigidaire GLD4355RF that's been screaming at us for years. Frigidaire cust svc help told us it had to be completely uninstalled to get at the cables, pulleys and springs. They're a joke.

    2. Thank you sooo much. That was just the information I needed to fix this most annoying problem. The noise was so awful... I can't believe all the folks who listened to it for years before getting it fixed. Yeah for the Internet!

  9. The soap fix worked like a charm! Make sure to "lube" both sides of the cord with the soap and also the full motion of the door so that any/all segments of cord which rube on the 2 rollers are lubed. I cut a finger-sized piece of soap off a normal bar of soap and was able to wedge it between the cord and roller for better lubing. Door is now silent and my whole family is happy.

  10. Incredible and thanks! The soap fix works like a charm. Just rub it along the 2 cables that look like a small piece of rope and that connect to the big door springs that run along both sides of the dishwasher. After several attempts to oil the springs this little trick has solved what was a very irritating noice everytime we opened the dishwasher. It was a Kenmore elite that this worked on.

  11. You guys are awesome, thanks for the help!! Amazing, simple and free solution! And such a simple fix. Why did it take me this long to look it up online???

  12. Thanks a bunch. This worked great for me as well. Hard to reach the ropes but cutting off a small piece of soap helped so I could get it to the rope did the trick. Thank you

  13. Thank you. It worked on my frigidaire 4000 seriers dishwasher squeaky door. An old sliver of Ivory soap worked great!

  14. Thank you! I had despaired of ever fixing this and it was ridiculously easy.

Next step: make the kids eat some of the leftover soap every time they hang off the dishwasher door handle...

  17. YEAH...finally our dishwasher door is quiet! I wish I would have looked her a few years ago when this started. Thank you very much!!!

  18. "pulled out the dishwasher and rubbed unscented bar soap on the cables and pulleys fixed it for me" same for me.

Worked perfect, feel stupid for not fixing it sooner.

  19. Gotta love the net: our three year old Frigidaire Gallery DW was so noisy it was embarrassing. I was going to pull it out and try to diagnose the problem, assuming it was the springs. But this simple fix did the trick: I pulled only the lower kick panel and was able to get a small bar of soap to each of the cables. Problem solved in about five minutes of work total. Thanks for the informative post!

  20. Worked perfectly, and I had already sprayed 1 cable with lube. I was able to pull the right side cable and spring out and rub it with bar soap. The left was too tight to pull out, but I held and rubbed soap on it while opening and closing the door. Worked like magic. All squeeks are gone. You're a genious, and thanks a million!!!!

  21. FGHD2433KF1, installed 1/8/2011, had this same problem less than two years later. Unfortunately I didn't have a small bar of unscented soap but only some fancy Emelauren "Wisteria" stuff but the noise had to go - and it went in under 5 minutes. I'll post back if the less then optimal soap causes any issues.

  22. I don't think I can get the kickplate off, there's tile in front of it, and below that, subflooring. I've tried pushing the kickplate up, but don't seem to have enough clearance.

  23. Thank you, thank you and thank you. The easy fix-it solution also works for model #FDB2415. We've been dealing with this obnoxious noise for over 3 years. Guess I'll go educate the guys at Lowe's appliance dept. who didn't have a clue for a fix.

  24. the 2007 0r 2008 model (PLD4375RFC1) does not have the two wheels, just a fixed nylon channel. Is there a way to replace this fixed pulley with one that has wheels?
You have to wonder why Frigidaire has not come out with a fix for this common problem!!
